6 of the best places to skydive in Queensland
Ever wanted to jump out of a plane 10,000 feet above the ground, then hurtle through the sky surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery on the planet? From the surf beaches of the Gold Coast to the rainforests of Cairns, Queensland is packed with incredible locations where adventure-seekers can take to the skies. Whether you know your way around a parachute or you’ve never jumped before, here are six of the best places to skydive in Queensland.
Get your heart racing on the Gold Coast
The Gold Coast may be famous for its surf breaks and theme parks, but there are plenty of thrills to be had in the air too. Head out with the team at Gold Coast Skydive for a jump that comes with views out over the iconic Surfers Paradise skyline and out towards South Stradbroke Island. Speed through the skies at 200 km per hour before touching down on Kirra Beach.
Freefall over the Queensland countryside
Drive around an hour and a half west of Brisbane and you’ll find yourself in the tiny country town of Toogoolawah – home to koalas, kangaroos and the Ramblers Parachute Centre. Strap yourself to an instructor for a tandem jump and you can be up in the air in an hour. If you’re serious about skydiving, sign up to their Accelerated Freefall course and learn how to fly solo.
Soar through the sky above the world’s largest sand islands
If you think Queensland’s island-dotted coastline looks impressive from the ground, you’re going to love it even more when you see it from 15,000 feet above sea level. Jump with Skydive Noosa to experience 60 seconds of heart-stopping freefall with the sand islands of Bribie and Moreton as your backdrop. Then pull your ‘chute and float gently down to land on Coolum Beach.
If you’ve got a few days to spare, squeeze in a 4WD-ing adventure on Moreton Island while you’re in the neighbourhood. Be sure to pack your GoPro, surfboard and camping gear.
Caught the skydiving bug? Head a little further north to World Heritage-listed Fraser Island and do it all over again. Pull the ripcord with Skydive Fraser Island and freefall over the largest sand island on earth. Then, spend a day or three cruising Fraser’s beach highways, swimming in freshwater lakes and hiking through ancient rainforests.
Glide above the Great Barrier Reef
Get a bird’s eye view of the Great Barrier Reef when you jump with the team at Skydive Airlie Beach on the Whitsunday Coast. Spend the first 60 seconds hurtling to earth, then enjoy 7 minutes of bliss above a panorama of turquoise waters, fringing reef and coral cays.
There’s more skydiving action to be had in Cairns, the adventure capital of Queensland. Jump with the guys at Skydive Cairns and you’ll be treated to views of the Great Barrier Reef, the Daintree Rainforest and Trinity Inlet as you hurtle through the skies.
