Supercars Vodafone Gold Coast 600

Switch on the lights.

The Supercars Vodafone Gold Coast 600 returns to the streets of Surfers Paradise again in 2020, but for the first time will be held under starry skies, making this an unmissable edition of the already iconic race.

The high-octane atmosphere continues off track with meet-and-greets, live music and helicopter tours during the carnival.

Magic Millions Polo and Race Day

The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions

When: 5 January 2019 (Polo) 11 January 2020 (Raceday)

The Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale is one of the most internationally renowned Queensland sporting events. But it’s the $10 million Raceday, including the $2 million The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic and the $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas exclusively for Magic Millions graduates, that gets lovers of live racing digging through their wardrobe for the perfect dress or suit.

Before the on-track action begins, the Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival kicks off with the Pacific Fair Magic Millions Polo at Doug Jennings Park, Main Beach.

High-action polo, picturesque surrounds and a cheeky cocktail (or two) make for the perfect summer afternoon. Watch some of the world’s finest polo players take to the field, including Argentinian superstar, Nacho Figueras.

Corona Open Gold Coast

When: 26 March – 5 April 2020

The WSL tour returns to the famed waters of Coolangatta for the Corona Gold Coast Open. This is simply the best of the best battling it out at one of surfing’s most iconic breaks. Post event there is nothing better than enjoying a cold one at a Surf Club overlooking the ocean – simple yet perfect.

Australian PGA Championship

When: 19-22 December 2019

Competing for the Joe Kirkwood Cup, Australian and International players will tee off for the Australian PGA Championship at one of the most acclaimed courses in Australia, the RACV Royal Pines Resort.

Featuring live entertainment, food and music across the four days, including the MyGolf Kids Day, this is the golf tournament for any fan.

2020 Bowls World Championships 

When: 23 May – 7 June 2020

Think Bowls is only for an older demographic? Maybe you’ve never sat green-side, beer in hand, watching as a bowl begins to pull up perilously close to the jack.

The Gold Coast continues to entrench itself as the home of Bowls in Australia, with the iconic Queensland sporting event, the 2020 World Bowls Championships to be held at three Gold Coast clubs.

Broadbeach Bowls Club, Musgrave Hill Bowls Club and Club Helensvale will host the two-week long tournament, with over 240 bowlers expected to take part in one of the world’s best Bowls events.

The streets, parks and venues across Broadbeach will rattle and hum to the sound of blues once again for the Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival.

Held across the central Gold Coast suburb over four days, this is one of the biggest free music festivals in Australia and with sensational dining, world famous beaches and ancient rainforests just a short drive away, this is the perfect event to base a Gold Coast long weekend around.

Eurovision – Australia Decides

When: 7-8 February 2020

After Kate Miller-Heidke’s breathtaking performance at last year’s Eurovision, Australia will turn its attention back to the Gold Coast for Eurovision – Australia Decides to see who will wear the crown next.

Hosted by Joel Creasey and Myf Warhurst, experience the dramatic brilliance of Eurovision as some of Australia’s most talented performers sing their hearts out over two days.

The Friday night show will see the artists’ staging and performances revealed for the jury judging, followed by the matinee on Saturday and then the live TV final on Saturday night where the winner and Australian representative for Eurovision in the Netherlands will be announced.

Gold Coast Film Festival 

When: 15-26 April 2020

The City’s flagship film event, the Gold Coast Film Festival brings cinema to life in distinctly Gold Coast fashion for the 18th edition of the festival.

With pop-up cinemas on the iconic Surfers Paradise Beach, in the lush Springbrook hinterland, down a Southport laneway and even floating on a boat – the festival promises to be like none other.

The 2020 program will be announced in March 2020 and will feature more than 100 films, panels, parties and special events including the Women in Film Lunch, Movie and Music Trivia and SIPFest, the annual short film competition transforming Surfers Paradise beach into a vibrant and unique cinema.

SWELL Sculpture Festival

SWELL is Queensland’s premier outdoor sculpture exhibition and presents up to 50 Australian and international artists to captivate the hearts and minds of all who visit.

Set along Gold Coast’s Currumbin Beach, the free event transforms the coastal landscape, showcasing thought-provoking and sculpturally impressive works across a range of mediums.

Gold Coast Marathon

Gold Coast Marathon Runners heading towards Surfers Paradise

When: 4-5 July 2020

The Gold Coast Marathon brings more than 26,000 participants of all ages and abilities to compete across multiple formats along one of the flattest and fastest courses in the world.

The marathon is the premier event, but you can’t go past the wheelchair marathon for sheer excitement and inspiration. These men and women are true champions as they travel 42.195km with their arms faster than most of us could do on a motorcycle. The other events include 2km and 4km Junior Dashes, a 5.7km challenge, a 10km run, and a 15km wheelchair race.

Coolangatta Gold 

When: 2020 dates TBC

Prepare to become a master of the seas.

One of the most challenging endurance races in surf sports, the Coolangatta Gold is tempting water fiends across the country to fine-tune their multi-disciplinary techniques so they can swim, run, paddle board and surf ski to salty glory in either the 32.4km Short Course or 41.5km Long Course.

Starting and finishing at Coolangatta (Cooly), the Long Course event heads all the way down to Broadbeach and back, covering some of the most beautiful stretches of coastline on the Gold Coast – all while pushing yourself to the limit.

The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships (The Aussies)

When: 18-26 April 2020

Australia’s 314 Surf Clubs come together to compete in more than 400 beach and ocean events spanning beach sprints, Ironman events, board races and everything in between at The Aussies – this is Australia’s finest Surf Life Savers at their peak.

Held at the Broadbeach SLSC and North Burleigh SLSC this is the perfect event to either put your years of practice and dedication, or your firm clap and cheer, to great use.
