Cape Trib Horse Rides

Bucket-list worthy beach horse riding tours in Queensland

Looking for a unique way to experience some of Queensland’s most beautiful beaches? Well, it might be time to saddle-up and add a little bit of extra horsepower to your next beach holiday.

The only thing better than long walks on the beach are the equine-assisted variety. With an added dose of wind in your hair and a trusty steed by your side, exploring beautiful coastal landscapes by horseback might just be the highlight of your trip.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced rider, here are some of Queensland’s most iconic beach horse riding tours to add to your bucket list.

Cape Tribulation

Cape Trib Horse Rides | horse riding Where the rainforest meets the reef, Cape Tribulation is famous for being home to not one, but two, UNESCO World Heritage sites. With the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area of the Daintree Rainforest on one side and the coastal waters of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area on the other, trotting along pristine beaches with Cape Trib Horse Rides is one of Tropical North Queensland’s must-do experiences.

Since tours started here over 35 years ago, thousands of visitors have been lucky enough to experience this beautiful landscape on horseback. Stephen and his expert guides know the place as well as anyone and will make sure this is truly a memorable morning.

Catering to all riding levels, this one and half hour trail ride will take you across lush paddocks and through part of the Daintree rainforest until you emerge onto the spectacular Myall Beach. If the conditions are right, you may even be lucky enough to take your horse out for a paddle to cool off.

Tours are restricted to those aged 5 and over, with riders aged under 16 required to be accompanied by an adult. A maximum weight limit of 102 kg also applies.

Magnetic Island

Horseshoe Bay Ranch | horse ridingLike something fresh out of a Daryl Braithwaite music video, Horseshoe Bay Ranch offers visitors to Magnetic Island the opportunity to ride a horse bareback down one of the Island’s most beautiful beaches.

Only a short 20-minute ferry ride from Townsville, Magnetic Island is known for its relaxed tropical lifestyle, secluded beaches, abundant wildlife and the giant boulders that dot the coastline. While the island was once famous for the Mini Moke cars cruising the streets, something with some real horsepower is the best way to experience the rugged natural beauty of ‘Maggie’.

Whether you’re paired with Amber, Bronson, Matilda or one of the ranch’s many other kind-natured and fun-loving horses, you’ll have a new best friend after spending a few hours exploring a small slice of this island paradise together. Most of the horses are quarter horses, perfect for trail riding, but the team has horses suitable for beginners as well as more experienced riders.

You can choose between a morning or afternoon tour, suitable for ages of six and above and those under 90 kg. Once you’ve had some basic riding instruction, you’ll make your way through native bushland on the lookout for wallabies and koalas before hitting the beach for a swim. Ditch your saddle and everything but your swimmers for the opportunity to take a dip with your horse.

Rainbow Beach

Rainbow Beach Horse Rides | horse ridingA vibrant beach town at the base of the Inskip Peninsula, Rainbow Beach is best known for its coloured sand cliffs and as a gateway to Fraser Island. With a pristine beach that stretches around to Double Island Point and the clear waters of the Pacific Ocean at its doorstep, this adventure playground is the perfect place to experience a little extra salt in your hair as you trot along (or into) this world-renowned beach.

Whether you’re looking for a classic beach ride, a bare-back swim, watching the sun set and the full moon rising, or a personalised experience for the family or romantic occasion, Rainbow Beach Horse Rides has literally thought of everything.

For those aged 10 years or older and under 95kg, the team of experienced guides will be able to match you with a friendly, well-trained horse to suit your riding experience, including those who are complete beginners.
