6 things to do in Townsville these school holidays
From tickling a wombat to exploring Magnetic Island by kayak, there are plenty of things to do in Townsville these school holidays that will keep the kids busy!
1. To the Castle (Hill)
Sure, you could just drive to the top of Townsville’s Everest, but did you know there are over 10 Castle Hill tracks to discover by foot?
So grab the kids and let them walk that energy off as you explore the different routes to the summit. Just remember, the panoramic view at the top will be worth it!
2. Snorkel the Reef
Before starting, the kids will get schooled on snorkelling techniques and learn about the reef’s ecosystem.
3. Island escape
Whether it’s taking the ferry over to explore Magnetic Island to spot some wild koalas, hiring a jet-ski, or cruising round in a topless car to each of the four main bays, there is so much to see and do on Maggie, the kids won’t want to leave!
4. Meet the (furry) locals
Set in 25 acres of natural bushland and featuring over 100 species of Australian animals, Billabong Sanctuary is the ultimate Aussie wildlife experience.
You can drape a python over your shoulders, tickle a wombat, pat a dingo, hand-feed a cassowary, and of course, snuggle up with a koala.
5. Stalk the Strand
You can’t go past the beachfront promenade for a good time these holidays.
With a water park, rock pool, multiple playgrounds and beach swimming all going down, The Strand always makes for a perfect day out.
6. Learn about the Reef
With over 150 species of hard and soft coral in the expansive Coral Reef Exhibit version of the reef itself, complete with its own Turtle Hospital and Predator Exhibit, it’s basically the land-lubbers version of the reef itself.
