There’s no better place to escape the stresses of modern life than this special off-the-grid paradise perched on the edge of the Scenic Rim and Ravensbourne escapement.

Originally built as a private, solar-powered eco-lodge, this hand-built home, which borders the Deongwar State Forest Reserve, is crafted from natural stone, raw timber, and concrete.

There are bushwalking tracks in the Ravensbourne National Park, mountain bike riding, fishing, and boating in the Cressbrook Dam. Not to mention the country pubs, cafes and antique stores in the nearby towns of Esk, Hampton, and Cabarlah.

Better yet, your dog will relish the chance to explore the 175 acres of natural bushland or chill in the ‘dog lounge’ on the end of the veranda.

4. Driftaway Villas, Yorkeys Knob

It is possible to enjoy a tropical holiday in Tropical North Queensland with your pooch in tow.

The pet-friendly Driftaway Villas makes the perfect base to explore all the region has to offer whether it’s a day trip to Port Douglas, Cape Tribulation or the Great Barrier Reef.

If you prefer to take it slow, you and your pup can head over to Yorkeys Knob Beach, which is just 100m from the villa, and enjoy a dip and a play at the off-leash area.

The property has a large yard and entertaining area so you and your canine pal can kick back and relax in style.

Located in the sleepy fishing village of Amity Point on the north-western tip of the island, Sea Shanties accept dogs in four of their seven waterfront, self-contained bungalows.

Cook under the stars in the outdoor kitchen, fish, surf and swim at one of the island’s many dog-friendly beaches. Or simply kick back with a glass of wine and watch the dolphins play with your pooch by your side.

Not so ruff, huh?
