6 things to do these summer school holidays on the Gold Coast
Kids and big kids alike rejoice! School is officially out for the summer and now is the perfect time to explore the coast with the most (the Gold Coast in case you were wondering).
1. Boredom buster
Replace screen time with green time and get outdoors for the Game On Kids Holiday Program from December to January. Dust off your running shoes, grab your basketball and participate in a huge variety of sport, movement and lifestyle activities in parks, pools and community centres across the city.
2. Seekers of thrill
For little ones with an appetite for adventure (and short attention span) head to the Treetop Challenge located inside Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Climb your way through 80 treetop courses from zip lines to wire challenges and suspended bridges. Safety equipment is supplied for the 3-hour course meaning all you have to bring are closed-in shoes (and a daring attitude!).
3. White Christmas in Queensland
Sure, the Gold Coast might not have snow but it does have the next best thing (with a touch of glitz and glamour). Experience a Christmas Parade decked out with themed floats and your favourite characters (and even Santa Claus himself) and the enchantment of Movie World‘s snow-covered streets at the annual White Christmas festival in December.
4. 8 second-rule
Get those cowboy boots on for a day of live music, rodeo clowns, real cowboys, bucking bulls and kids rides complete with a mechanical bull. Giddee up to The Lonestar Tavern in Mermaid Waters for The Silver Spur Bullride Rodeo Series on 13 December. Yee haw!
5. Tree Walker
Escape the crowds and walk among the treetops at Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk. The entire walk is 1.5km of forest floor trails and bridges through the upper points of the canopy – 30m above the creek and rainforest below.
6. Stories of the outback
Saddle up and prepare to be dazzled by Australian Outback Spectacular’s new show – High Country Legends. Watch legendary stories of Australian characters come to life, amazing animal stars, death-defying stunts, aerial performances and spooky ghosts.
